QUEZON CITY — Heritage, sustainability, and Filipino craftsmanship took center stage during “Weaving One Voice,” a Rotary Foundation Charity Concert and Sustainable Fashion Show organized by the Rotary Club of Upper Eastside Antipolo last May 22 at The Blue Leaf Cosmopolitan in Robinsons Bridgetowne, Quezon City.
Among the featured creatives in the event was Cordillera Indigenous fashion designer Maila Alog, Head Designer of Baguio fashion house M.A. Woven Designs, whose works continue to champion Indigenous textiles, handwoven traditions, and sustainable Filipino fashion.
The event highlighted the importance of preserving cultural heritage while promoting community empowerment and environmental awareness through fashion and the arts. Bringing together advocates, designers, and cultural supporters, “Weaving One Voice” served as a platform celebrating local craftsmanship and the enduring artistry of Filipino weaving traditions.
Known for integrating Cordilleran identity into modern couture, Maila Alog presented creations that reflected the beauty of Indigenous craftsmanship and contemporary sustainable fashion. Through the use of handwoven textiles and culturally inspired designs, M.A. Woven Designs continues to elevate traditional weaving into wearable art while supporting local weaving communities across the Philippines.
As an Ibaloy fashion designer from Baguio City, Maila Alog has steadily gained recognition for promoting Cordilleran culture in national fashion events and cultural showcases. Her participation in “Weaving One Voice” further strengthened the presence of Indigenous Filipino artistry in sustainable fashion initiatives and advocacy-driven events.
The charity concert and fashion showcase also emphasized Rotary’s commitment to service, heritage preservation, and community development — using fashion and culture as tools for awareness, empowerment, and unity.
For Maila Alog and M.A. Woven Designs, the event marked another meaningful opportunity to showcase the richness of Cordilleran craftsmanship and the evolving future of sustainable Indigenous fashion in the Philippines.
